I'm hoping to create a network of home fruit growers in Limerick, then Ireland and then of course the World, where we can share ideas and plants, making it easier to grow loads of fruit at home. To start off this idea I'm trying to round up anyone who is interested in growing fruit in the Limerick area. Here is how you can get involved
- Swap a plant with me - If you have an extra blackcurrant bush or something that you don't really want then I can swap it with a physalis plant for example.
- Swap knowledge - If you already know plenty about growing fruit and especially about growing fruit in pots then I'd love to meet and have a chat. There is surely something that I can pass on to you and if not I can bring a plant instead.
- Foster some plants - If you have nothing to swap :( but would like to get involved then maybe you could look after some plants for a year. I only have a small garden and am beginning to burst at the seams but I still won't stop collecting fruit as I have plans for a larger garden in the near future. For example you could look after 10 raspberry plants and then you could keep two or even propagate some of you own from the ones you are minding. If it fruits while in your care then you get the fruit too. This might be a good way of learning about fruit for the beginner.
- You may have other ideas of how you would like to get involved with the Pots of Fruit network so please suggest them.
As people now have smaller and smaller gardens the idea of growing fruit in pots will become more and more important so I'm hoping to be doing some research projects on my own and hopefully with other people in the group, so the more people that get involved the better. Another possibility is to swap fruit when during the summer. If one person has too many apples and some one else has too many strawberries (if that's possible) then they could get together and swap so the fruit isn't wasted.
Watch out for more stuff on this idea...
